The History of Yame Matcha
In 1423, during the Muromachi period, a monk from China founded a temple in Kurogi Town, Yame City. The history began when he planted tea seeds he had brought back from China.
By around 1600, tea from this region was already known as a local specialty. At the time, there was no single name like "Yame-cha"; instead, each producer gave their tea its own name. To unify the quality, the name was officially standardized as "Yame-cha" in the mid-1900s.
While Yame tea is now produced across a wide area, the tea from Kurogi Town is still famous for its superior quality. This is because it is the very place where the tea-making tradition first began. #yamecha #matcha #japanesetea #greentea #sencha
