The Heart of Selection and Tea

The Heart of Selection and Tea

A Legacy of Thoughtfulness: From Waka Poetry to Matcha
About 800 years ago, a noble poet resided in a secluded villa called Enrian, tucked away in the moss-covered silence of Sagano, Kyoto.

He was commissioned by his father-in-law for a special project: "I want to decorate the sliding doors of my villa with the finest poems ever written."
Tasked with this labor of love, the poet curated 100 masterpieces spanning 600 years of history.

This collection, born from his refined aesthetic and deep devotion, became the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu—Japan’s most beloved poetry anthology.

Selecting each poem was an act of profound thoughtfulness, much like the spirit of a tea ceremony. In Japan, we do not just "make" tea; we "prepare" it with a specific person in mind, honoring the moment and the guest.

In the quiet, Zen-like atmosphere of Enrian, where history and nature breathe as one, we invite you to experience this same spirit.

Why not enjoy a bowl of Matcha with a heart full of "Omotenashi"—the selfless care for others?
