Standing on Hieizan where it all began.


In 805, Saicho (Dengyo Daishi) returned from China and planted the first tea seeds at the foot of this mountain.
Later, Eisai — who trained at Enryakuji — brought back the matcha whisking method and wrote Japan’s first tea book.
