one of Japan’s most historic temples

Did you know that one of Japan’s most historic temples is named after its "sacred spring"? 💧✨

Miidera Temple (Onjo-ji) gets its name from the "Three Wells" (Mii).

Legend has it that the spring water here was used for the first baths of three ancient Emperors.
But for tea lovers, this water holds another layer of meaning. 🍵

Since the 7th century, this pure, mineral-rich "spiritual water" (Akai-sui) has been prized by tea masters for bringing out the delicate flavors of Japanese tea.

Even today, you can hear the rhythmic bubbling of the spring at the Akai-ya pavilion—a sound that has remained unchanged for over 1,200 years.

When you visit, don't just see the architecture; listen to the water that fueled centuries of Japan’s tea culture.
