Is "Uji Tea" only from Uji? 🍵✨

Did you know that "Uji Tea" (Uji-cha) doesn't just come from Uji City? There are strict official rules behind this prestigious name!
To be officially labeled as Uji Tea, the tea leaves must meet these criteria:

📍 The Region:
The raw tea leaves must be grown in one of four neighboring prefectures: Kyoto, Nara, Shiga, or Mie.

⚙️ The Process:
The leaves must be processed within Kyoto Prefecture using the traditional "Uji style" finishing techniques.

🍃 100% Purity:
It must consist of 100% tea leaves from these four specific regions.

Why the neighboring areas?
Historically, tea masters from Uji shared their expert cultivation skills with nearby mountain regions that have similar soil and climate.

Today, blending high-quality leaves from these areas (called Gogumi) is a key technique to maintain the consistent, deep flavor profile that Uji Tea is famous for.

Next time you sip on Uji-cha, remember the rich history and the craftsmanship of the Kyoto region! 🇯🇵
