The Fugenzo Sakura: A Journey of History and Matcha 🌸
Did you know that some cherry blossoms carry a divine story? This variety is called "Fugenzo." Its name comes from the two leafy pistils in the center, which resemble the white tusks of the elephant ridden by Samantabhadra (Fugen Bosatsu), the Bodhisattva of Practice. 🐘✨
At Daihonji Temple (Senbon Shakado) in Kyoto, known as the birthplace of this variety, these blossoms fall gracefully as a whole flower—reminding us of the beauty in transience.
During this season, we enjoy a special Wagashi (traditional sweet) named after this flower.
It’s crafted to look like the delicate petals and those iconic white tusks. Pairing it with a bowl of rich Matcha creates the perfect harmony of spring colors: soft pink and vibrant green. 🍵🌸
Exploring Kyoto's history through a bowl of tea is such a soul-soothing experience.
